Design of an Enhanced SAT Using Zeolite for the Removal of Ammonia Nitrogen at a Bengbu Aquatic Farm in China

As one of the artificial recharge technologies, soil–aquifer treatment (SAT) system is used for removal nitrogen pollution from aquaculture wastewater. An adsorption-enhanced SAT was designed to reduce level below threshold stipulated by standards. Adsorption kinetics experiments were measure adsorption capacity zeolite and activated carbon ammonia nitrogen. Both adsorbents can be well described Lagergren pseudo-second-order model, rates 72.16% 31.40%, respectively. Combining experimental data actual situation, medium-packing method determined influence wastewater characteristics hydrodynamic conditions on retention considered. Finally, feasibility site design scheme verified Hydrus-1D model simulation. The study found that situation in area feasible; however, surrounding underground environment still had a risk during operation site.
